전명은은 아마추어천문가, 폴리아티스트, 청각장애인, 시각장애인, 조각가, 기계체조선수 등의 인물이 자신의 불완전한 세계를 극복하고 확장시키는 과정을 사진으로 기록한다. 파리8대학 사진과 석사(2009), 중앙대학교 조소과 학사(2002)를 졸업했다. «내가 안고 있는 겨울»(2022, 페리지갤러리, 서울)를 비롯한 9회의 개인전을 열었다. 송은미술대상 우수상(2018, 송은문화재단)과 아마도사진상(2017, 아마도예술공간)을 받았다.
CHUN Eun produces photographic records of how people like amateur astronomers, foley artists, the hearing-impaired, visually-impaired, sculptors and gymnasts, to name a few, overcome and expand their world. She holds M.F.A in photography at Université Paris VIII(2009), and B.A. in sculpture at Chung-Ang University(2002). She has held solo exhibitions including <Winter in My Arms>(2022, Perigee Gallery, Seoul). She won the Excellence Prize at SongEun Art Award from SongEun Art and Cultural Foundation, Seoul, Korea(2018) and Amado Photography Award from Amado Art Space, Seoul, Korea(2017).
프랑스 농아인 협회 ‘망(M.A.I.N.S)’*은 매년 9월 마지막 주에 개최되던 ‘세계 농아인의 날(JMS; Journée Mondiale des Sourds)’의 2010년 행사를 위한 사진 작업을 제안했다. 18명의 농인들이 각자 수어와 농인 사회를 주제로 하는 다양한 문장들을 가지고 와서 수어로 표현하고, 나는 그것을 사진 이미지로 만드는 것이었다. 이번 전시에서는 그 중 두개의 이미지를 소개한다. 이미지 속 소년과 소녀가 표현하고 있는 수어의 의미는 작업의 제목 속에 담았다.
이번 전시를 위해서 한국 수어를 담은 이미지를 한 점 제작했다. 이미지에서 표현하고 있는 것은 “우린 빛나고 있네, 각자의 방 각자의 별에서. 한 사람에 하나의 별”이라는 <소우주> 가사 중 일부다. 사진 속 모델은 애화학교 고등부 2학년 정예안 학생이며, 아름다운 수어 표현을 위해 애화학교 선생님들께서 힘을 보태주셨다.
The
photography project was proposed by M.A.I.N.S., the French association for the
deaf and hard of hearing, to celebrate International Week of the Deaf in 2010,
which is held annually across the world during the last full week of September.
18 deaf people got together under the theme of “Sign Language and Deaf Culture”
and demonstrated sign language sentences, of which were translated to
photographs. Out of the photographs taken at the event, two of them are
displayed at the exhibition. The meanings of the sign language expressed by the
boy and the girl in the photo is available in the title section.
A
special photograph containing Korean sign language has been taken for the
exhibition. In the picture, the sign language means “We’re shining brightly in
our own rooms, in our own stars”, which is part of the lyrics of
<Mikrokosmos>. The song faithfully delivers BTS’ key message: To love
myself and to coexist with different identities. The girl in the photo is Grade
11 student at Seoul Aehwa School and the teachers at the school kindly helped
us with the sign language in the project.
